No, I do not believe that there is anything in the owners manual that states that maintenace has to be done by a Yamaha approved and/or authorized service technician. The 10 hour service is pretty straight forward. If you do it yourself or have a capable friend do it,You still ought to keep a written record (log) of what you did and attach any receipts for parts, fluids, etc. to this. Then if you have a warranty issue, you can prove you complied with manufacturer recommended maintenance intervals and procedures (make sure you use the manufacturer recommended parts & fluids, etc.).
