Who's is paying for 10hrs or 20hrs service on a brand new engine ?

Hi every one,<br />I just want to know, when you are buying new Yamaha out board. Who is paying for the 10hrs or 20hrs services, dealer or customer ?<br /><br />Thanks,<br /><br />Alex.

MATTT <br />I did and still do follow the service manual. Do all the required services at the correct interval or you will pay later. And when in doubt I ask for help and get it here on Iboats from people like rodbolt, and others, lots of knowledge here.

I bought my first NEW outboard last year and negotiated the first 'run in' service as part of the purchase price. The end result was I saved about $200.00.

unless its negotiated with the selling dealer before purchase, the customer pays for all routine and scheduled maint.

No, I do not believe that there is anything in the owners manual that states that maintenace has to be done by a Yamaha approved and/or authorized service technician. The 10 hour service is pretty straight forward. If you do it yourself or have a capable friend do it,You still ought to keep a written record (log) of what you did and attach any receipts for parts, fluids, etc. to this. Then if you have a warranty issue, you can prove you complied with manufacturer recommended maintenance intervals and procedures (make sure you use the manufacturer recommended parts & fluids, etc.). If you are not comfortable doing this yourself, then by all means bring it to a qualified Yamaha service tech.

Perhaps this used to be true when the engines were all carbed 2-strokes, but with HPDI and 4-stroke complex computer-controlled engines, I would very carefully assess what maintenance you may or may not be able to do, and what special tools or instruments you might need. The world is unfortunately not simple any more.
