Why am I not clear on this?

Should be easily found in my manual but doesn't seem to be the case. Not sure when or if thermostat has ever been changed in my '84 90hp V4, and its on my list to do as PM , but I am unclear as to the location and procedure for checking/replacing it. Any help or diagrams on this is appreciated.

Look below, #78 is your thermostat. If you have never changed them I think it would be a good idea to go ahead and replace them.

If you're going to change them, get some 1/4" drive tools, especially flex sockets. If the mtr has been in salt water plan on heating things.

Awesome thanks for that, should be just what I need, but one question, why on that page and with the kits available on ebay does it say and show 2 are required and included but the diagram only seems to show 1? Am I missing something? Is there 1 for port and another for starboard cylinders?

Parts breakdown shows only one, the parts list shows quanity of two.
