Can anyone answer this question? I removed my engine without pulling my drive because the drive was stuck on. I now have the engine out but the coupler will not come off the drive shaft. Please dont tell me to get a manual I have one and does not help at all. This is a Cobra drive v8. Why won't it come off should anything be holding it on?

Just a device to transfer power from one object to another.
It "couples together"
fan belts, railroad cars, drill chuck,

The coupler is bolted to the crankshaft of the engine, under the flywheel cover. Could you explain to me HOW you got the engine out with the coupler still on the drive shaft of the outdrive?

I'm confused. The coupler is attached to the flywheel of the engine via a couple of bolts. Once you remove the bellhousing you should be able to access the coupler and remove the bolts. You really need to be a little more specific as to what you are describing or attach a picture if you want any help.

Yes I can explain and I knew you would ask. My drive would space out about an inch no more no less. So i pulled the engine forward with a comealong about and inch that I had snuck in a 11/16th wrench and removed the nuts from the fly wheel to the coupling and wala pulled engine forward and out. Now I can not not get the coupling off the drive shaft which was the whole problem from the begining I just couldnt see it with the engine in.

Well, it's froze on there because of corrosion, rust, and lack of lubrication. About the only way to get it off is to cut the shaft off between the coupler and the transom shield.

I would make 4 wedge shaped doorstop like blocks, slam em' in between the drive and the transom spaced evenly to apply pressure, then go around front with big hammer and a large brass punch and hive the driveshaft a couple whacks through the coupler, the driveshaft does stick through the coupler no?

Nope, closed end.
Being that rusted, cut the shaft, it needs replaced anyway. No reason in the world to beat on the end of the shaft. Don't forget, the receiving end of the hammering is sitting in gears and bearings.

put a cutoff wheel on a disc grinder and split the coupler, you never know the splines on the shaft might be ok, be a shame to cut off the shaft and find out after that it was still usable, good luck

Define use able?
If the coupler is THAT corroded to the shaft, the shaft isn't serviceable any more.
