A lady that lives on the same road as me has started making a small fortune by selling CARDBOARD BOXES with cars on the side for ten bucks a piece. She has just signed a huge contract with a toy manufacturer, and is just making money hand over fist. It's just an idea she had that has really taken off. The little boy in the taxi with the red shirt is my son Kolin.

http://boxcarz.com/assets/images/KolininTX.jpg

Has anybody had any ideas that they could have made millions on, but were not fast enough getting the product to market?

Re: Why didn't I think of this????

One year my wife convinced me to send my mother a pie for her birthday. She got the idea from Oprah, when Oprah had pointed out a website that makes pies and sends them in a nice box along with some flowers. I thought it sounded like a good idea, so I went to the website and discovered the pies cost $100.00.
After much more arm twisting by my wife, I called the number on the website. I got a recording that said "Please don't leave order information. We are 3 months backlogged. Leave your name & number & we'll call back when we get caught up."

Now there is a business from heaven. Why didn't I think of that? All I have to do is get it on Oprah!

I thought of the internet, but Al Gore beat me to it :D

I do have dreams at night where I invent things. I wake in the middle of the night saying "what a great idea" to myself. I go back to sleep and when it's time to get up in the morning I cant remember what it was that I dreamed about

I had one really good one and luckily was able to ride the wave :D I now have the start of another that, if it works out, should be very good.

joew94th - the pie idea is not what made it successful - it was the invaluable free exposure on Oprah. People like Oprah, Imus and Stern can make an Edsel successful.

I have a great idea, I been thinking of this since the day I got married. What do you think about breeding a mother inlaw attacking cat? Just think, as soon as she walks in the door BAAM! ole snowball latches on and chases her back home.

Anyone that wishes to invest in this venture contact me here at Iboats.

I told my wife after we bought a couple of those tupid white plastic lawn chairs that "someone ought to make fencing out of this - no more maintenance!!? 7 years later I was in Ohio on buisiness and went tp a county fair - there it was. Now I see it everywhere.

Re: Why didn't I think of this????

About two years ago I was sitting on my boat fishing and have a drink. i thought to myself what would be great was some ice. So i started drawing up plans for a 12 volt ice maker with cube storage underneith and its own water tank. I started thinking about cost and I figured it would be about 700-800 dollars With the cost of the compressor and holding tank. Well the idea went away for a few monthes and then all of a sudden I saw it in a magizine that I subscribe to for sale for 800 dollars. And thats my story :)

Re: Why didn't I think of this????

I find the idea is about 5% of the equation. The other 95% is making it happen. It usually consumes every minute of every day. But when you finally make it, and the world recognizes it, wow what a feeling.

There are plenty of good people out there with the ability to take good ideas and make them happen. If you think you have a real winner, test the idea by telling people you know and trust to get their reaction. If you still think it has merit, and can't make it happen on your own, start looking for a partner who has the skills and contacts you need.

Re: Why didn't I think of this????

here's one i just thought of:

a commode with built-in vent :D you know they have the hollow rim with holes for water to flow down inside the bowl, well maybe separate that into an extra channel/tube that has a pipe outlet in the back to hook to the exhaust fan. then maybe the odors will get pulled out right at 'point of entry' LOL maybe the econo model has a large dryer vent type connection with flange to fit orig ceiling fan, and supreme model comes with small rubber tube and wall mount/flush fan unit that is piped into drain stack - whatdya think?

i'm like GG, i come up with stuff at night, then forget them by morning. i had a whole dream about a simple faucet repair kit that replaced the stem with ?? and made it leak proof, with a reusable part that could be 'flipped' over in case it was so old it did start to leak. and i had maybe 3 or 4 other dreams of inventions that went poof by morning.

Re: Why didn't I think of this????

dang rabbit! i've never been out of SE USA, but it figures anything you can think of already has a patent on it  but just FYI, i ran a search for "switzerland toilets" and all i learned is that the swiss, french, and spanish people have some pathetic bathrooms, as far as tourist facilities :(
and no mention of a cool toilet like i thought of, much less private cubicles or even totally enclosed, free restrooms... dang all the links i found make a local sleezy 711 commode look like a luxury in other countries. lol

i don't think i am missing anything with a france vacation. you must have been in the upper echelon when you visited the swiss

Re: Why didn't I think of this????

Here’s one for you. Some guy bought a bunch of surplus submarine parts after WWII. He was tinker around with a hi-pressure cylinder when it lit off, lifting a parachute into the air in his barn. Idea!!! Put rapidly inflating bags in cars as a safety device. Even built prototypes. Everyone thought he was crazy…invented in the early ‘50s.
