Poly resin? Because laminating resin was used. Thats a good thing. You can get some wax additive and mix up a batch of resin and paint it all over the stringers and then it will dry hard and not sticky. The wax cuts out the contact with air, making the resin fully cure. Or just pick up a gallon of Bondo resin, it has the wax in it and will dry smooth and non-sticky.

If its epoxy, then possibly the mix was off and it may take a few days to fully cure.

Epoxy. Its probably just Anime Blush that needs to be washed off. Anime blush is wax that comes to the surface as the epoxy hardens. Use dish detergent in a bucket of water like washing a car. Apply and rub over with a scrub brush and hose off. It should dry tack free.

If it doesn't, then it may be a mix issue, but try washing off the anime blush.

BTW, YOU CAN NOT APPLY THE NEXT COAT OVER THE BLUSH OR IT WILL NOT STICK!!!!!

Post back what happens when washed.

Re: Why is my hardened fiberglass sticky

washing it in warm soapy dishwashing liquid ( i used dawn) worked GREAT.
i washed the area with a rag and then wiped it clean with rinse water.
i could not use the water hose to put water straight on the stringers because the stringers are already attached to my boat hull, so i just wiped them off with rinse water and they dried good and are not sticky.

thanks for the advice

can i lay the other layer of fiberglass or should i wait a few more hours?

Well, its kind of like this: Define "Bubbles".....

What I mean is that if you see a bubble here and there, small area about shirt button size, I would not worry about it. But if there are larger areas, say a 3x4" oval, then just grind that bubble out and lay a patch over it.

Good to hear the sticky stuff was just blush and not bad mix.
