Its a 1976 35hp i pulled the head off is this how its post to be???and does the pistion post to have a lil play in there???

Why don't you start with what the problem actually is.
A little background history on the engine wouldn't hurt.

probably running on one cylinder. did you do a compression test before pulling the head or did you just tear into it? I would first suspect a bad coil on the one cylinder that is wet, but who knows now
