Why no air filter

Why isnt there an air filter on the carb of my 25hp Johnson? I can look straight don?t the throat and see the throttle. Isnt that an invitation for dirt. Also why cant I find a carb adjustment screw. I?ve heard its non adjustable; is this true? Is this good?

Not much in the way of dirt or dust out on the water...
You don't give a year or model number - some had carb adjustments, some didn't...

the cowl is designed to keep the dirt out.
