I have a question, why can't I run my I/O with muffs on and motor up. I can see the water coming out the out drive and the motor is not over heating. BTW, I have a closed cooling system if that makes a difference.

I see ya made it in here Roff.... already causing trouble tho... LOL
You technically can run your engine with the (alpha) drive all the way up but it isn't great for it.... I sometimes operate my boat with the drives all the way up when I don't want to bust my props on a shallow rocky bottom
BTW.. the muffs have nothing at all to do with it
I guess I was thinking you can run with the motor trimed up why not run it in the drive way with the motor in the up position. I should say... I don't put it in gear, just neutral. I normally start the boat in the drive way before I take her out on the river. I would rather have problems in the driveway over the open water.
As stated above, in or out of gear doesn't matter. The u-joints are spinning regardless.
I run mine in the driveway too before I head out. It only takes a few seconds to trim the drive down a little to save wear and tear on parts you really would rather not have to replace.
