I heard that it is not good to run I/O's full throttle for long periods of time. Maybe just fiction? Anyway, so that's how I treated my I/O. Now I have an '84 Johnson 70 outboard and heard that with the loop scavaging that they run best at full throttle.

Anyone have any comments on this?

Thanks

Jeff

If you can afford the gas at WOT then run it as fast as you want. You will get nearly twice the fuel milage if you back it down to about 4-4500 RPM and just cruise along. Probably wont make 5MPH difference, unless you have a very heavy boat.

Yup. What LD said. Try about 3/4 of full throttle.

Good luck. :)

Outboards and Marine inboards were made to run WOT about 80% of the time. Cars were made to run WOT about 20% of the time. If you want to Run WOT then go for it. I usually do as I like to go fast on the water. :) To bad fast is about 33mph. At least that what I think it is. I will need a GPS to get that done and the boat all fixed up.
