width question

Ok easy one here for anyone with a tape measure.

All of the toons I have looked at state 8' deck or 8.5' deck. What is the actual width of the craft. Is the deck usually mounted to be as wide as the tubes? Is it truly 8 or 8.5 ft? We are selling our camper and thinking of replacing it with a pontoon and I am curious about a width comparison as my storage lot space is kinda tight with the camper. I have to park between two class A motorhomes.

Re: width question

Usually most of the pontoons I see have a deck wider than the toons, and yes the deck is actually 8' wide. However, some of the newer pontoons you see are 8.5' wide.

Re: width question

There is some variation in the pontoons. Width, placement, and shape varies a little... enough that all pontoons won't fit the width of all pontoon trailers. However, width of the deck is somewhat standard.

Re: width question

The maximum width allowed on federal hiways is 8'6" plus safety equipment such as mirrors. Thus, most manufactures list their width as 8' 5". So if your camper fit, a pontoon boat will fit. And most trailers are fully adjustable to accomodate any pontoon up to its maximum rated length.

How wide is your camper? I have seen them anywhere from 7' for an older popup to 8.5' for newer full size rigs. Most all newer toons are 8.5' except for the "gil getter" type and some electric powered toons.

Re: width question

We have a 2005 Jayco travel trailer. It is a full size so without the tape measure I am thinking 8'. so I should be good. the toons just look bigger.

Re: width question

I have owned travel trailers for almost as long as I've owned pontoons. Practically all RV's since the late 80's have been 102" wide so I'm fairly certain yours will be as well. The Federal govenment increased the maximum width from 96" to 102" (actually 2.6M or 102.36") for federal interstate highways in about 1982 and most states began to increase their maximum widths as well. So since the late 80's, most trailerable boats and RV's have been about 100" to 102" wide.

Yeh, I would think that Jayco would be at least 100" wide.
