be at our lake!!! Could they?

Pictures from this last weekend at Lake Mead. First for us, we've seen Burros and Bighorn Sheep, but we had no idea these were there. I have checked since and they are indeed "Mustangs"; they were just too perfect, looked like they had just been brushed . . .

And this one for some scale. There was a slight breeze blowing onshore and we just let it carry us for about a half hour. Probably could have got closer, but it was getting shallow . . . We were all being quiet, even the shutter sound (fake) on my camera was getting their attention. Then I started up (thru-transom  ) and they didn't blink. Go figure . . .

QC, that's really cool. I wish I could have seen that!!

My guess is that they measured you up and decided you were not a threat to them which might be why they didn't blink when you started up the old motor.

Sean

Stinkin wild horses. Get 'em all the time in the yard, if they come in when the ground is wet they leave gigantic hoof-craters in the lawn.

Nice to look at once in a while, but I can't get over them stinkin hoof-prints. Makes the lawn look terrible...

Oh, yeah, absolutely.

I don't know if our horses actually qualify as "wild", I believe the term is "estray" (spelling?). They don't have a home or belong to anybody, but they are semi-tame. I've gotten a few of them to eat from my hand. They seem to prefer our yard because we have apple trees.

We had one that really stood out several years ago, brown with a blonde mane. We saw her as a foal, but she is grown now, with little ones of her own.

Or, maybe the term "estray" refers to a horse that breaks free from captivity, and lives in the wild with other horses. Can't remember...

I was wondering if you would chime in . . .

It's the very bottom of Bonelli Bay. Just started hanging out there as we found some sand. Level is up about 10 feet from last year, but I'm still scared of the Canyon . . . We had great weather, so we basically went everywhere. Went all the way to Sandy Point the next day (from Lake Mead Marina, 120 miles RT). The brown water/blue water line is now in Iceberg Canyon.

Yeah, the water needs to rise at least another 50' to easily make it up the canyon. Needs to be about 1180' elevation. Never been to Bonelli bay, is it a pretty remote area? I'm making my last trip of the Summer the week of the 4th of Sept. Should be perfect weather. I can't wait! :D I'll keep my eyes peeled for wild mustangs. :)

Actually it is the Southernmost point of the center basin (Virgin). Fairly ugly section of the lake, but I was intrigued by a satellite photo that showed some islands etc. Great place for watersports as it is well protected, but the scenery pales compared to Temple Bar, Greg Basin etc.

I wish I was going to be there then, but School starts that week etc. Probably won't be back 'til next year :(
