Will 120hp 1985 lower end/trim fit on my 140hp 1983 top end?

I bought a lower end/trim/mount unit (basically everything but the top end) with serial number E120TXCO.

Will this fit on my 83 top end serial number E140TRXCT?

I thought it would, but now I want to make sure before I attempt it.

Edit,

I had found this which lead me to the secret files. Sorry. Should have searched first...

So looks like according to this:

If it has a 13 spine shaft than it is a crossflow and will fit, but if it has a 15 spline prop shaft then it is a looper and wil not fit as and my top end is a crossflow 13 spline prop shaft. So I can check when I get home...

If not I will just sell the lower end seperately and lower the price on my boat or ideally find one that will fit. Trim really just needs a rebuild but I would have to buy spanner wreches and not sure what else.

Thanks!

From what I've seen virtually any V4 Crossflow gearcase will interchange with another. Only problem I can remember is we once hung a '93 under an '86 & the driveshaft was slightly too tall. Banged into the flywheel & wouldn't let us fully seat the case. Lil grinding on top of the shaft cured that. Speaking of grinders, if you own a Dewalt right angle grinder? You already have a spanner wrench. (Other brands might work as well.)

Unless the pistons & cylinders are tore up trim units are fairly easy & inexpensive to repair/rebuild.

Good luck!

Well, the lower end I bought is a looper so its got a 15 splined prop shaft. I assume I cannot use it even thou I have the midsection with exaust housing adapter and stern bracket and transom swivel bracket and all that. I can see that the lower end is different, but wonder if the driveshaft is the same so it would still work...not sure I want to try. Thinking it is best I sell that seperatly and either sell boat with no motor or ideally find the proper lower end.

Im thinking this will fit caue the driveshaft is the same. Shift rod will have to be swapped thou. Anyone want to chinme in before I attempt? Only issue is my driveway is a 45* angle and cannot get boat up it so have to figure out how to do this at the bottom of the driveway with an engine lift or soemthing.

Well it fit. The gearcase is larger so my prop wont fit. The shift rod is the only problem. Have to use the one from the looper lower end as it is 1/4 inch loger, but bend differently. I have to bend it like the old one was but need acetylene torch. New one is like a Z lower and the old one is just angled at the tip. Now need to find a rebuild kit for it and figure out what to do with the 20 gallons of old gas. Should have just taken the $2200 offer on the boat, but hopefully I can sell it for more with it running.
