Will a Mercruiser 165 outdrive fit on a 140

I have a 1977 Mercruiser 140 HP I/O. The outdrive has suffered some galvanic corrosion and looks really bad. I found a similar year 165 hp outdrive. Will that fit the 140 gimble assembly and is the gearing the same?

Nope,... It'll be a step or 2 Higher...

It'll bolt on, but be a Dog....

What he is trying to say is YES, BUT the gear ratio is higher and may affect the performance.
