will a yamaha tach work?

I have a 1986 yamaha 50hp 2 stroke and I also have a 1997 evinrude 9.9 2 stroke. I want to use the yamaha tach on the evinrude to test props, is this possible?? It sure beats buying a tach, just to test rpms for different tachs.

Only if it has a "5" pulse setting on the back. That's what your 10 "Pole" Evinrude needs. The Yamaha uses a "3" pulse setting and has a "6" pole alternator...
