Will control cables fit newer Mercury?

I currently have a 1986 115HP Merc and am upgrading to a 2000 125HP Merc They both use the 8-pin harness, but do I need to buy new shift/throttle cables? Or will they also work on the newer motor?

The throttle and shift cables will work. I would have thought the wiring harness was the different part.....
