Using a 50hp Johnson outboard. It was working fine before. Didn't really do anything to it that I am aware of. Has a great left turn but hardly turns right. What could be the problem?

It sounds like the pivot tube needs to be romoved and cleaned entirely. Re-assemble with fresh new grease. If the problem persists, then the problem is in your steering cables and such.

Wouldn't by any chance be a hydraulic steering system, would it? Tell us more.

Make sure the trim tab didn't fall off and you are now fighting all the engine torque to make your turns.

Sorry, its a 75' motor and turns by the cables. The only thing I can think of is using the grease gun and I put quite a bit of new grease in there, and perhaps something was moved around idk. The cables seem fine. I want to say it is in the pivot tube now that you mention it. I will try and find out how to do that procedure. Hope it's not too difficult..

UPDATE: Figured out the problem and fixed it. I disconnected the cable on one end and the motor could pivot right this time. So it was obviously the cable. Readjusted the cables and it works great now.

"Cables"?? Do you have dual steering cables on that thing? Nothing wrong with that, just unusual.

Dual steering cables? It's a metal wire, non electric if that's what you're saying. But yes, there is a cable that pulls the motor right and left manually.
