I am in the middle of a floor repair.I have the plywood cut to shape and sealed with three coats of thinned epoxy.Since I have some more epoxy that might be enough for the laminating ,I decided to proceed with epoxy.I also have enough of roving to make 2 or 3 layers along the floor surface. What I want to know is- how roughly should I sand the pre-sealed wood and is that roving(300gr\m2) appropriate for that purpose?Thanx!

My understanding is that you would not do multiple layers of roving without a base of fiberglass mat, then mat in between the layers of roving.

IMHO the main goal of 'glassing over' the floor is to water proof it, protect it and mechanical attach the floor to the hull and transom. I guess the question I have is are you covering the floor? or building a tank?

We all complain how extra weight slows our boats down. Keep in mind that epoxy weights alot..

In my case I used 2 layers of 7 oz, aka medium weight cloth on the floor. I used the 2nd layer only because I wanted the seems to be covered and staggered.

Yes,I want to cover the floor and bond it to the hull.I expect to achieve better water insulation and good resistence to normal wear and tear.I plan to glue the seats, gas tanks and trim motor as well, thus avoiding drilling the floor. My roving is about medium weight and I don`t want to overkill,so 2layers may do nicely I hope.I don`t have mat and I read somewhere in the forum that epoxy and mat don`t like each other so much.As to weight reduction I will skip the carpet gladly. Thanks for your responce!

I am also installing a floor. Will use 5200 to glue and then screw it to the stringers, then tab the floor hull joint with 6'' matt and 5'' WR, then I will put one layer of matt on the entire floor, and onto the tabs.
