Well it almost that time of th eyear again and I am looking to upgrade from my '94 Evinrude 120 hp w/ 20" shaft. I have an oppurtunity to purchase a '98 Johnson 175 w/25" shaft (model#: J175FSXECS) for a really good price. My 'rude has been working great after several new electronic components replaced, but it has always had a problem with cavitating while on plane. Based on calculations, shaft is too short/prop not low enough in water. My concern is the Johnson is about 55lbs heavier and torque/thrust is greater than the 120. I have an 18' wellcraft CC w/ 2' extended transom. I am having trouble finding spacs on the boat as it is an '85. What I do find doesnt really match up as i know the beam on my boat is 8' and all i can find is for 7'. This thing is a beast of an 18 footer. Should I be concerned with these increases in weight and torque? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I would think that you should be fine..maybe use a jack plate to get the 25" shaft up some..if the 20" was too short you probably only need an inch or so down. you need to check the condition of the transom, you may want to "beef" it up a little with some extra bolts and oversize washers or a brace..If it is in all good condition I would think it would be fine..but with out a good first hand visual inspection anyone here would be just guessing..maybe a trip to your local marina and buy a mechanic lunch for his opinion..

Thats a ficht, thats why its cheap. Very expensive to buy parts, computer and injectors can easily run you more than $2K.
My preference would be to make the currently installed engine work, how much higher is the cav plate above the keel?
An adjustable jackplate is an idea,

I did not see the F in the model number...you need to find a carbbed motor...you can fix it yourself and parts are way cheaper.
