be compatible with other engines or is it dedicated to just the 165 inline 6? I know the 140's were similar in that era (early 1970's)

But,....
Generally speakin', if yer drive is the 1.84:1 gear ratio, it'll run with an ole 470, or a 4.3l in a heavy hull,....
If it's the 1.65:1 gear ratio, it'll run behind Some ole 470s, 'n most 4.3l, except in a heavy hull, 'n with the 5.0l in very heavy hulls,....
The short input shaft, would need to be swapped to the long input shaft, before it'll run on anything but the I6,....
It'll bolt to the bell of Mod.1s, 'n Alpha 1s, but not the Alpha Gen.IIs,....
