Was on the water the other day in my 1984 bassboat and the Suzi outboard wouldn't start. It had run earlier, and batts were charged, but the starter spun slowly then finally quit and all I got is a 'click" when I turned the key.
Driving back to the boat ramp using the troller with a dead OB tilted up SUCKS!!!!!
Anyway, at home I checked the power to the solenoid (good) and then to the starter bolt (while turning the key over) and the connection was hot, so it must be a bad starter (old Hitachi S108-68).
My question is, will the newer model starters (Hitachi S114-555 or Suzuki 31100-95600/95601) work, or should I stick with the S108-68 or 31100-95313?
Found a 'guaranteed to work' used S108-68 for about $60. Sounds good to me?!? There are more choices available on used, 'newer' starters tho.
I plan to sell or trade the boat ASAP and get something newer anyway. Just did a bunch of work re-carpeting, rewiring (NOT to the motor) and replacing hardware, and don't feel like buying a new starter.
