Will not cold start

My motor is a 01 75 hsp. mercury. It will not start cold. If you spray engine starter in the <br />air intake, it attempts. to start. Does anyone have an answer to this problem.

2 stroke or 4 stroke. is this one of the merc classics ? good motors.

I forgot to mention, the Engine is a 4 stroke Pro series mercury

seems to be a problem with merc ( yamaha ) lower hp 4 strokes. if i remember correctly, there a 4 fuel enrichment seolonides, book said to check for operation by applying 12 volts to each unit. look for blue wires running to each unit, blue is choke, also check the yamaha site for similar problems. had a c-80 and it gave me fits got ride of it and the boat. fuel enrichment,choking was automatic and you have no control over it. good luck fred.
