will not idle in gear/ hard starting/shakes

I have a 1987 Force 125hp motor. The engine quits when first put in gear. Then I have to advance the throttle to get it to start again. Once I get going the engine shakes from 1500 to 2500 rpm then its fine at full throttle. If I bring the throttle back to idle it will run for a few minutes then dies. Then the starting and idle in gear issue starts all over. Makes for a fun day at the docks.

mcflteng I would first check the compression on cylinders @ then check to see that all cylinders have a good spark

When engine starts to stall have you tried engaging the choke? Chances are you have gunk in your carbs. Could be water in your gas as well. Use fresh gas and rebuild your carbs. Should also replace diaphram in your fuel pump.

I would only add to eurolarva's good advice. I would replace all fuel hoses and the bulb. Maybe even go with a new plastic fuel tank.
