My 1972 35 hp chyrsler was not running when i bought it, I changed the plugs and battery gas and a few hoses and got it to running. The only problem is that it will not run more than half throttle. The day I got it running I drove all over the lake for about and hour until my gas ran out. I had no problem out of except for acceleration being a little slow, but it did accelerate to full throttle. Anyhow I switched it over to my second tank and from then on i haven't gotten it past half throttle with out it starving for gas and dying. I changed the primer bulb thinking it was leaking air. that didn't seem to help any. I tried going back to the tank i used first that didn't help either. It seems to help alittle if i pump the bulb while it is running. Any help is grately appreciated.

Re: will not run wide open

IMHO, I would change the fuel pump diaphragm, I would soak the carb overnight and rebuild it. Your high speed jet may be plugged up. The parts for these operations are available at NAPA for less than $30 and the carb kit has fairly good instructions with it. Another thing I would do is remove and clean the puddle valves-soak them and blow out with compressed air.If that doesn't fix it, you may need to pull flywheel and check your points. They probably are fried.

Is the valve open on the second tank to vent?

Might be a coincidence that the problem came after swithing tanks...do a compression and spark check.

TMD
