Guys,
I found a QD-13 powerhead and was wondering if it would fit my QD-14? I noticed it had hard lines(copper) instead of fuel lines but otherwise looks very similar to mine. It also only has 75lbs. of comp. on both cylinders. I was hoping for about 85lbs. Will it fit and if so, what do you think about the compression numbers....Should I pass on it?
Thanks,
JBJ

Probably the same base, so I'd say no problem. 75 a little low, but still usable. Little decarb might bring it up 10lbs...

It should fit fine. 75 psi wouldn't scare me, but I'd like it 10 psi higher.

Re: Will QD-13 powerhead fit QD-14?

Sam Ott,
I have a QD-14 that I got on ebay. It has a great lower unit but the powerhead has compression like around 65lbs and sounded awful like it was binding. I think the bearings were shot and the wrist pins were loose inthe connecting rods. I thought it might throw a rod any minute and it never would run all the way wide open. I would like to fix it, though, because I hate to have useless junk around the house, I really like the QD-14's (I've got one good one), and the lower unit for the "new" one is nice (I've taken it apart already). I saw a QD-13 powerhead on ebay that i might could get as described above. It has the black shifter knob on it that I need, too. They by themselves are 30 bucks from nymarine. Keep in mind I'm down south where there are no motors of any kind that are more than 5 or 6 years old that are worth anything if they're actually for sale---It just KILLS me that ya'll have access to those good ol' OMC's so cheap up North. BTW, just down the road from me some fellow less than 5 miles away has an old 51 Johnson 25hp that is hideously painted black on a boat out in the typical "redneck" front yard. I just have to stop by one day and ask if he'd sell it. I really like those 51's and as you know I've been wanting an old 25hp badly. Back to the QD-14. I kind of like the shift in front. Anyway, that's why I'm asking about the QD-13 is so I can fix my QD-14. I don't really like the whole motors from '52 because I like the throttle in the handle and I don't believe they have that. BTW--what is that crazy looking thing your '56 10hp is attached to?

Yes, we do seem to have a lot of oldies up here. That's cause they made them in Peterbourough (3 hours from here). I also am looking for an old Big Twin 25... preferebaly '55 but those particular ones are rare so far up my way... I have a 30 and 35 and several 40's but not the 25.

I also have a QD-13 with the front shift but have never done anything with it, it's just sitting in the shed... was unfrozen when I got it a year or so ago...

Btw, that's a '58 10 but a '56. The colors are the reverse of the 56 and 57.

The cool thing I made this past spring. I got 2 old windsurfer boards, got an aluminum frame welded and put plywood and I/O rug down and put a transom on it. It does not go as fast as one would think though. I put an 18 on it also but it has something to do with the hull length etc as it ploughs... It runs best with my '50 Evinrude 7.5 on it. And I put a trolling motor in it for the kids... They like that too.
