I am looking at tires for my 1993 Ford escort. I Have found some on craigslist with rims for cheaper then a set of tires. They come with rims to, not that i care its an Escort. Ok time for the question. My tires that I have on the car are P175-65-R14 the ones i've found online are P195-70-R14 Will they fit my car with no rubbing or dimension problems?

I checked TireRack.com and those tires don't show up as a fit for any of the Ford Escorts in 1993. That doesn't mean they won't fit, just that TireRack.com doesn't suggest them for your vehicle.

They should fit as long as you have the correct bolt pattern for your lugs. You will be going to a wider, thinner tire. My old 89 escourt took 195/60/15's with no rubbing. The 93 should as well since I believe that was also an optional tire on the sport Escourt

And taller . . . Which means an overall final drive ratio difference. It will run higher road speeds at the same RPM as before and your speedo will be off. Could be a real dog from a stop too. Check for Revs per mile spec for both tires. The percentage difference will be how far off the speedo and RPM to speed is . . .

I know about the speedo being off but should i even try it? or can i go with a 70 width on my stock rims, the tires would be a bit taller.

And isn't wider and thinner the opposite of each other?

Thats what I was thinking, but if you have an auto tranny it will be kinda doggy. I had a (stick) 94 escort wagon and ran 195-70-14s one winter, no rubbing. Maybe on ice build up in fender well, but not in warm weather.

KMK..........

If you do go with the P195-70/R14 size and your vehicle's speedometer indicates 70 MPH, your vehicle actual speed will be 75.5 MPH, compaired to your P175-65/R14 at 70 MPH. The P 175-65/R14 doesn't sound like a factory installed tire size for your Escort, but I could be wrong.

The best thing for you to do is to look on your car's driver door or on the drivers door frame, with the door open, and see what the original tire size your vehicle came with, as shown on the Federal sticker.

Use the speedometer calibration calculator, I have placed below, to search match different tire sizes to get the most accurate speedometer indication and actual speed. I usually post this site once a year. It has many more calculation sites, for just about everything that need's to be calculated.

On your fit for the new wheels, you might want to look at the wheel's offset.
This dimension can have a more adverse effect on your fit and suspension's symmetry then a tire size.
