i have a mercruiser 140hp (1977) and looking at batteries. ive looked at hundreds, read reviews etc. i know most people dont think weight should be an issue but im trying everywhere to try and save as much weight as i can.

the braille B14115 battery weighing in at only 11 pounds. will this work on my merc 140? i dont need an actual marine battery do i? i dont need a deep cycle or anything right? sorry but i dont really know much about battery or electrical in general.

All of the information you provided is of little value except the CCA (cold cranking amps). That is very marginal for that size engine, especially if you have any other accessories on the boat that are powered from this battery. No -- you don't NEED a marine battery but it is advised that you should have. No you don't need a deep cycle battery but you can use one if you wish. No -- your selection of battery is not one I would depend on.

Nope,... It ain't powerful enough, 'n has little to no reserve...

550 to 650 CCAs is 'bout minimum...

The chart below if is from Mercruiser's application manual. Your racing battery also only has 15 Ah (Amp Hour) capacity compared to the recommended 90 Ah.
Why would you want to even consider a racing battery that costs 2 to 3 times more than a properly sized battery.
A typical 24 case starting battery is usually around 560 CCA, why would you not go with one of those?
