My brother gave me a prop he found in his boathouse that the previous owner left behind...
It's a "Michigan" 14 1/2 x 17 RH stainless steel
SSM 247-C
I have an 88 Marlin open bow with Merc 4.3, alpha 1...
Prop looks great, wondering if it would be a good fit for my boat
Thing is heavier than my anchor!
Thanks for any thoughts

The prop should fit. Seems low in pitch unless you are pulling skiers or your boat is heavy. Question is what pitch are you running now ? I have a few Michigan props like that about 12 lbs

What's the max wot rpm achieved with current prop as usually loaded, check that before swapping other prop.

I currently run an aluminum 17 p for tubing /skiing...
I have a 19p as well..
This SS prop weighs 15 lbs
Not sure what I'd gain w SS other than durability ..
But is was free

The 17p runs about 4500 rpm, 36-38 mph

What's the min-max wot rpm range for that engine ? 4500 sounds low with a 17 pitch, engine could be revving already at the lugging zone which is bad while running as usually loaded..

Very close to the lugging zone, a 16 pitch will do the trick bumping wot rpm near max wot rpm range. could send that prop to a prop shop and have it re pitched to 16. Try the other one and report max wot rpm achieved on flat calm no wind water cond as usually loaded.

my stainless runs about 300 rpm lower than the aluminum prop b/c it had no cupping - but if your old prop is cupped it might be pretty close.

I realized it accelerates a lot better for skiing and holds my speed very steady. The prop I have is similar to your but smaller diameter.
