Will this winch be adequate?

Fulton F2 1600, which I already have in the garage for a prior boat that was much smaller and lighter.

I have a 2005 240 SeaRay 240 Sundeck that is 4500#, but with fuel, water, and gear, it probably weighs 5300.

Will this winch do?

Thank you,

I'd say get a bigger one.

It would likely be able to pull the boat up but remember that the winch is a large part of what secures the boat to the trailer.

I like to have the winch rated for at least half of the weight of the boat.

yep, have to agree with smoke.

will it do the job? maybe, but it doesn't have the strength it needs for safety and if you ever get water in the boat I don't think you stand much of a chance of getting it out with that smaller winch.

when it comes to winches I believe you want a good 10% or more over the weight load (including the weight of a boat full of gear) for strength and ease of winching it on plus for those times when "stuff" happens

Think of your arms man! Small winches don't have reduction gearing. And since you need to buy a larger capacity winch, why not spend a bit more and go electric. You will never regret it. After a long, hot day partying on the water, the last thing you want to do is work up a sweat getting the 'toon back on the trailer

Agreed with everyone else, get a bigger winch.

No need to work up a sweat, just winch it until it gets difficult, then back the trailer in deeper and winch to the stop. I hand winch my 6000 lb boat after every trip. I almost never use the low gear on the two speed winch and I never work up a sweat.
