So we were at the marina and about ready to hook everything up and the winch decided to bend and skip and with the help of another boater we were able to at least get it on the trailer and secured. The following day the only place to get one was Tractor supply, so I buy a 1600lb winch which was identical to the original one I had. Well, that winch turned out to be a piece of junk. Even with about 60% of the trailer under water it still strained and skipped gears, there were pieces of the new winch gears everywhere. I finally got (I think) is a winch that will pull it right out of the water, a 2500lb 2 speed. This thing has 4 main gears and 2 smaller gears but about an inch wide for both! Best of all got my money back from TSC and only spent 30 bucks more for the good one.

Sounds like you have a very heavy boat.

"Slydz On" or "Liquid Rollers" works wonders at making bunks slick.

When freshly applied, you are warned that the boat will want to slide off by itself once you release tension on the Bow Eye.
Be sure you are over water before you release the hook!

It makes winching Up so easy the Admiral volunteers! :)

I'll have to look into that. This winch and finding the sweet spot to put the trailer is going to do it I think. These other two couldn't even pull it up a foot before slipping.

Re: Winch number two shot!

The first time I tried Slydz On, I aimed the boat at the trailer at "All ahead, Dead slow", I like to call it ramming speed, but it is just dead idle (3-4 mph) until the boat touches the trailer.
I shifted into neutral at first contact. The boat slid up within 2 feet of the bow stop and immediately slid back off the trailer.
On the second try I left it in idle until the admiral got the winch hook on.

This stuff works better than advertised.
There are lots of stories of people unhooking the winch before backing down the ramp, only to have the boat slide off the trailer onto the concrete!
If the ramp is steep enough you may need to tie a line to the boat just to get enough slack to unhook the winch.

These are not exaggerated tales. You have been warned!

I dont seem to have a problem with winches, only pirates arrr. Sorry I had to do that. Seriously I have a 9,000 lb boat and I really don't use the winch untill the last inch or so. I motor up then thottle a little harder to set it to the final bow roller. Then cinch it up secure from there.I use maybe 2 feet of cable.

Yeah, I don't know what the deal is with this. I get the boat about a foot away from the bow rest and then try to winch the rest but neither of these other winches could pull it up. Like I said before the trailer in the water well past the bunks. IDK, hopefully this winch is overkill and be done with it.

Something's wrong here. Your boat only weighs in the neighborhood of 2000#. No way you should need a 2500# capacity winch- you're not lifting the thing. Was the first one to break the original (20 years old)? That replacement must have been made of pressed cow dung, or else your boat is way overweight.
