Winch strap vs rope

I want to change the rope on my winch and replace it with a strap. I find that there are straps with a loop end and a tail end, I do not know what the difference is. My winch drum does not come apart so I do not think I can use the loop end type. Does the tail end mean that it will go into the retaining holes in the drum sides like a rope would do? I do not want to buy a whole new winch if I can avoid it.

The loop is held by a bolt from side to side, not by the hub of the drum.

Thanks for the info, I should be able to easily modify my existing winch to use a bolt to hold the strap

Just buy a new winch with the strap. It looks better and costs about 10-15 more than just the strap alone.
