Who will admit to NOT doing maintenance on their windless.

I admit it, I'm not

Decided to have a look at my 1994 Maxwell 500. Have not done the first thing to it ever, and it has never failed me, so maybe on borrowed time. The manual says to take it apart to grease at least once a year. Mine like about everyone else's is in the chain locker. Figure if it needs to be greased often then it needs grease fittings

they save money by not putting grease fittings in there.

however for a $2300 windlass, i would probably be taking it apart every few years.

we sell some price-point davits that need to be serviced annually. however to be competitive in the market, we cant add the easy rope change features which add about $1200 unburdened manufactured cost to the davit, or about $5k to the sell price

I'm installing a chain counter prior to launch, and maybe next year I'll pull it out and see what it takes. Just have to many other things going on to do it prior this season
