I have a '72 runabout with a cracked plexiglass windshield. How can I repair this damage? I read in the archives that acetone from a hypodermic works well, but I live on the east coast and hypodermics are not easy to come by (legally). Any suggestions? Are there any commercial products out there that will do the trick? If so, where might I find them?

Thanks in advance.

Re: windshield crack

Needles ar available everywhere. Go to a needle exchange center and steal one from a heroine addict. :)

The problem with a syringe is that most of them are plastic, and will dissolve.

I wouold try an auto glass repair shop. They have a vacume unit that is used to suck the solution into the crack from the backside.

Replacing the glass is a far better idea which will result in far fewer complaints and "safety" concerns the U.S. Coastgaurd may pose when you get stopped in your local waterway. It might be old but it's your baby....right ? Don't cheap out. Stealing a needle from a Heroin addict is a bad idea, kinda like buying a Force engine and runnin a 50:1 mixture in it.

You can drip the acetone with a small spoon or even dipping a nail in it and using it drop by drop. You can also use a small oil squirt can.Think creative, there is always a way. Charlie
