Hello,

I have a '99 Reinell 170. It is an open bow with a walk through windshield. I hate that freakin thing. Is there a way to remove that windshield and install a Lexan low profile windshield at the driver's and passenger's side? If so, where can I get such a product?

Thanks for the help!,
Dave

Re: Windshield Removal

I would say 90% of windshields on boats are very easy to remove. Typically there is what I call a screw strip at the bottom frame of the windshield (the part that actually touches the deck. This strip is usually black in color, and hard plastic, rubber, 50/50 hard plastic and rubber, or foam. A lot of manufacters use a double sided sticky tape on the soft screw strip, cause it shrinks when in the sun for a long period of time. Usually you can stick a small flathead on the lip of this screw strip, and pull it out of the frame, exposing the screws that hold the w/s to the deck. The next question is, are these screws through bolted, t bolts, or just wood screws.

hope this helps

Thanks for the ideas! The E-Bay link was useful, although there wasn't much there. Anybody ever performed what I am looking to do?

Again, Thanks!
Dave
;)

Keep checking each day. New stuff all the time. To save time, search the boating category for "windshield" rather than browing through all the lsitings.

Re: Windshield Removal

sorry, I have a bad habit of skimming quickly through a post, and Ralph Spencer has busted me doing once already....... lol...... I will correct the problem......... promise.

I do not know if you have a home depot or not, but home depot carries lexan. Here is a place in my are that will sell you anything cut to the size you want. On a cheaper side, you should be able to go down to your local glass shop, and have a piece of glass cut, and then tempered. This will probably be about 1/2 the price. Here is the link for lexan/plexiglass/acrylic.

http://www.dfwplastics.com/

b.t.w. windshield frames are easy to modify.I have done quite a few on N.L.A. type stuff.

Re: Windshield Removal

I just last week replaced my center swing-out window with 1/4" Lexan polycarbonate. Same cost as safety glass. While it requires more care than glass, it will never break. Plus for the swing-out portion, it is less than half the weight.

Mike P
1988 28' Bayliner Ciera Sunbridge

Re: Windshield Removal

Hello,

I want to remove the whole glass windshield and mounting. Then I want to add a molded type windshield that wraps around just the front part of the driver's and passenger's "dash".

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dave

You might look for a plastics fabricating shop in your area. They have them in Miami and they can make most anything.
