Winter Damage

My friend has a Mercruiser 2.3 L engine inboard outboard in a 2000ish boat. The trusted friend did not winterize the boat as promised and now the heads are cracked. We live in Canada and it has been a bad winter so I think it is fair to assume the worst. I have offered to help them as I can and with your generous help if you so choose. What kind of damage could we be looking at? Is it worth having a mechanic look it over or should we begin looking at other options like replaceing or rebuilding? What else can we do to diagnose the problems? Any estimate as to total cost of repairs? Thanks in advance-Gerry

Re: Winter Damage

A cracked block is going to be your biggest problem. But first we have to find out what your friend really has. Merc never used the Ford 2.3 engine, Only the GM 3.0L 4 cylinder in 2000.
You said the heads (plural) are cracked????? A 4 cylinder only has 1 head.
May also have a cracked intake/exhaust manifold.
