My buddy is cooking up some sort of bubbler/water aggitater to keep the water from freezing around his boat lift. The old guy across the cove say he and his neighbor have bubblers to keep the water from freezing. He claims there are a lot of fish back in their cove over the winter, I guess because of the air and water circulation. This makes me want to plan a winter fishing trip. Anybody have any thoughts or similiar experiences with this type of situation?

Re: winter fishing

Up here many lakes use aeration to keep oxygen in the water during the winter. These are shallower lakes which in a bad winter have winterkill(oxygen depletion due to no photo synthesis or flowing water). This is why fish are attracked.
Permits are needed to do this as need to post etc. Also permanent dock(pillings) they use them to keep the water open so in the spring have a chance to surivive the ice break up. Again one needs to put up snow fence around the area to keep people/snowmobilers etc. safe.
Around your area don't know if the above is an issue but if legal why not.

Re: winter fishing

In Missouri, the only fish I'd bother fishing for during the winter are crappie. They'll be a little more active in cold water and can be found bunched around sunken timber or brush. Bass fishing is usually downright s-l-o-w.
