Freezing can't be good for it. I take all electronics I can off the boat in the winter for this and safety reasons.

I remove my GPS fish finder. The stereo remains in the boat. For some reason I can see that fancy screen cracking at 40 below and I don't want to chance it.

Do you remove your Nav unit/Stereo with LCD screen from your Car/Truck every winter ? If so, then you should do it with boat electronics too. If you don't then........

My electronics have not left the boat in 6 years.
I used to remove and stored them below. Anymore, I don't even bother to remove them from the helm.

Egg Harbor has not seen 40 below since the ice age.

I have a stereo, gps with 5" screen and a vhf. They are all mounted and stay there.

Re: Winter removel elctronics

you guys are funny.
myself, i take everything out of my boat for layup. granted i ain't got much. stereo and vhf. the vhf is inside, the face plate of the stero is inside. the drive is inside. there's not much left.
i do this some for theft protection, some for maint. anyway ya look at it. there's nothing left much worthwhile in my boat during winter layup.

good thing ya guys are drinkin up the beers. ya leave'em in the boat over freezing winter, they might explode and make a mess... kinda like a cracked block.

No need where I live now but when I lived up in the tunda,,, anything mounted in the dash stayed in. The loran and FF came off but GPS, stereo, and vhf stayed in. Yeah-- liked the Loran better than GPS so kept it....
