Re: Winter Solstice

LOL :D

I knew you'd say that; tell it to the Sun . . . now you're gonna call me a pedant again

Solstice wise I think it just passed and we made it through. Have you talked with Aldo at all? He's been pretty quiet . . .

QC,

Last time I asked (about two months ago) Aldo and family were going well. He's invited anytime so hopefully we'll catch up in the summer when he escapes from Mexico (Victoria)! :D

It's not quite the tropics here (now who's being pedantic? :D) but we get a "kind" of winter from May through to August with average daily highs at about 70F and overnight lows of about 50F. The rest of the time it's warm to hot, and it gets REALLY humid, but here on the coast it rarely gets above 95F. Inland it gets filthy hot... 110+.

A lot of Europeans and other ex-northern hemisphere folks celebrate Christmas in July - just another excuse for a p!ss-up if you ask me! :D

I was thinking about Aldo the other day, so with this prompt, I have sent him an e-mail to see how things are going.

Re: Winter Solstice

Hi guys, I'm still around and post infrequently (mainly in the merc section).

It's cold and wet in Melbourne at the moment, at least the drought has broken!
Kerryn is o/k, she still has ongoing issues and there is no end in sight (with the tumors) but she is a tough cookie and her spirits are high.

I'm busy with work and a little side project involving building a offroad comp truck, it's actually the second attempt, the first one failed miserably. This new one has already made it's mark in the Outback Challenge (5th place out of 25 entries). The next competition is a week long event in central NSW (Cobar). Wish me luck.

Seemed like only yesterday that we all met, where does the time go?
Phil, did ever get that Patrol from Canberra?
Kevin, it's been too long, we should touch base more often. How is the family? Have you heard anything from Richard (and Sue)? I've tried calling them a few times without luck, I think he has moved or changed his phone numbers (maybe it's a hint ).

Hey Aldo (and Phil too for that matter),

Has been a while. Good to hear about Kerryn. Yeah, Richard kind of fell off the planet.

Off road? Jeez, have fun with that. Only problem I have with that passion is you can't jump in the water and cool/clean off . . .

Oh, and I spent my Solstice at a Beer Shrine in Milwaukee. I win.

Good to hear from you Aldo. Sounds like another passion has taken over - do you ever get time for the houseboat? :D Let us know when you're next up this way... cheers.

Mark.

BTW: QC... a beer shrine? Americans make beer??? OK, only kidding, you win! Great name for a boat methinks!!!

We have something similar Stachi, but we call it winter here.
(our nights won't go below 7C (40+F) and sunrise yesterday was at 6.38am, as me, the missus and the workers all stood out and watched it.)

On saturdays we have 3 young teenagers working, and next sat, they are going to paint a line on the concrete drive at exactly 10am, where the shadow falls on the south side of a steel fence, and them moniter it week by week. I have encouraged it as the Grade 11's are studying degrees, minutes, long-latitude, meridians....everything, and about 3 weeks back the girl complained it was no use to her, so now they think it a good idea as they get paid for doing it!!

BUT, sometimes I THINK I miss the distict 4 seasons, well, until I see a picture of of a truck covered in snow.

Cheers

Sure do, we use the houseboat every second weekend. We would like to catch up with with you & M (and Phil & A). Kerryn and I won a trip to Airlie beach for newyears but they won't allow any flight changes (detour to Brisvegas). Maybe next time.

Do you fancy watching the newyears eve fireworks at Daydream island?

If it's cold, get your boat ready for when it isn't.;)
