So i have been reading on here the last few days about how to store the motor and boat and what everyone thinks. However i have not been succesful on finding anything pertaining to my area, okc ok. I know it gets cold enough to freeze here but it doesnt normally stay that way for extended periods of time. Being that this is my first boat i am unsure how to store the motor. I have heard of fogging the motor. My thing is that i have seen days in the middle of january nice enough to be able to get out and do almost anything. Do i just store the motor down and stabil the fuel? Or is there more i should do? I was thinking of draining the carbs to help out, is there more to it for my region? If it matters it is a 1985 force 85 hp. I hope to have this in the right area, if not could the mods please move it to the right one. Thank you all.

I am currently attempting to find a covered storage place i can afford to house it at to keep the snow and sleet off of the whole rig.

Re: Winter storage

Yes use stabil and if you plan on using it in the winter don't fog it.Fogging is for longer than 3-4 months.
Draining the carbs would be good.
Keep the motor DOWN!!!!!while you have it at home.
Not necessary to use antifreeze or anything on an outboard. It won't hurt anything if you do.J

Re: Winter storage

Also check to make sure there's no water in the lower unit. If there's enough it'll freeze and maybe crack the housing besides possibly ruining a good set of gears and bearings w/ rust.
