Winterization question: how does this winterization anti freeze kit work?

Howdy,

I've have a 2011 Glastron GT 205 with the Mercruiser 4.3 MPI Alpha one. The boat needs to be winterized and have anti freeze circulated into the motor and drive. I have the West Marine Winterizing kit and 4 gallons of pink anti freeze. I know how to set up the kit and hook it to ear muffs on the ourdrive.

My question is how long does the boat need to run until it's circulated the anti freeze through out the motor and drive?

Is there anything I need to be carefull not to do?

A picture of the boat, kit, and anti freeze are included in the post.

Raw water cooled? Pull the thermostat.

I made my own winterizing kit out of a 5 gallon bucket and some fittings. I have closed cooling so I don't remove my thermostat. I run 6 gallons through the raw water side. Here's a pic of mine last week.

You will get many different opinions on this topic.

Ayuh,... The only way to guarantee those kits actually work, is to Drain everything 1st, then add the antifreeze...
But,...
Once you've got everything Drained,...
There's really absolutely No reason to add the antifreeze in the 1st place....

like bondo says, unless completely drained first,there is no way of knowing you got enough into the motor. quickest way to a new motor.

flush and fog
drain and fill by hand
and inspect/service anything else in there that needs attention.

Thanks for the advise. The good news is the new Mercruiser 4.3 MPIs have a single drain valve on the bottom front of the motor and the valve handle is on top of the motor. So draining this engine is easy and I've already done that.

I was told to put antifreeze in the engine to prevent rust.

I'm trying to use as much caution as possible with my new toy.
