I am a first year owner of a '99 Yamaha 4-stroke. What do I need to do to properly winterize it for freezing temps. It is stored outdoors under a cover.

Thanks

Re: winterize Yamaha

You should add stabelizer to the fuel, change both the engine oil and lower unit lube, change spark plugs, drain/clean fuel filter, tilt engine up and down several times to drain the water, and if you have a garden hose connection for flushing blow it out to remove any water that may be present.

how much gear oil goes back into the lower unit? Do I fill it all the way up to the top plug?

Pump gear oil in the bottom until it runs out the top.

Do what bugman says, also change the oil filter, and squirt some oil in the cylinders when the plugs are out.
