Do I have to change my oil now, or can I do it in the spring before I take it out? The current oil has maybe 2 hours on it because it is the break in oil from my rebuild.

Do it in spring just in case you get any condensation in it over the winter and it always nice to start the season with fresh oil.

I recommend that it be done now.even though there is only a small amount of time on the oil,it has acids in it from being run and the motor will be better off without these over the winter .Fresh oil is always best BEFORE rather than after. It needs to be done anyway so you may as well do it now and have one less thing to do in the spring.Charlie

I have opted for the do it now method...that way, on the first nice day of spring I can have one less thing to worry about before taking her out. I want to uncover her, drop charged batteries in, start up and flush out antifreeze, hookup to truck and go. Always sucks to really want to get out on the water and have to perform maintainance on it instead of enjoying it.

JMW

Re: Winterize ?

What do you guys recommend as far as the oil goes with fogging the motor. Should you fog with the old oil and then change or change it and then fog with the new oil? It seems like it would be pointles to change the oil, then fog it, possibly contaminating the new oil and then let it sit over the winter, especially with the mentioned possibility of condensation contaminating it. Would the acids in the older oil really hurt anything with the oil just sitting in the pan all winter? Just trying to find out the reccomended way or most common way to do it. Thanks.

IMO, you want to run the engine after an oil change, so you should do the oil change and then fog.

Re: Winterize ?

Is there any chance of the fogging oil contaminating the engine oil to the point were you wouldn't want to run it in the spring with that oil, or is most of that fogging oil just gonna burn off when started in the spring. I usually work on outboards so fogging oil takes a whole different path through the engine, coats everything and then burms off on start up in the spring, but I never had to worry about contaminating any engine oil with it. I'm guessing it won't make much difference to the oil quality. Thanks.
