Well, he didn't say anything blatently stupid. Batteries being discharged by sitting on cement is nonsense. Running A-F thru an outboard is difficult and just plain dumb. Outboards are self draining, and it is impractical and unnecessary to use a flusher to introduce the A-F.

Re: Winterizing article??

Batteries outer casings used to be made from a material that would discharge the battery if left on cement so people placed them on wood 2x4's but that was many years ago. It's just an old wives tale now with the materials used today. Doesn't make sense to me to remove the plugs and spray them. When you run your gas mixture with a heavier than normal oil concentration and fog the motor they get coated along with the rest of the internals + you are going to replace them in the spring anyway. As far as using AF goes. I can see the argument for using some with the muffs but not the flush attachment. Although outboards are supposed to be 100% self draining I'm a strong believer in Murphy's law. For the small cost of adding a little AF vs. potential freeze damage (however small) why take the chance?

Winterizing???????? That should be a 4 letter word this time of year. We're still trying to get rid of snowbanks...... I'm with the no antifreeze crowd too......

Re: Winterizing article??

I've never winterized a outboard in 25+ years and I've never had any issues.
My outboards being small, nothing over a 40hp,are removed from my boat and put in the shed or sometimes the basement.
Maybe it's because I don't have any corn in my gas not sure...I never do anything special to my chainsaws/lawnmowers/etc either.
I smell the mixed gas that was left in the container over the winter season(4/5 months),top it off with some fresh stuff and away I go.
Not telling anyone they should do this but it is what I get away with.

That web page has been discussed before.

It's quite silly IMO.

2 cans of fogging oil ??
Anti-freeze ??

The unnamed motors that don't self drain???

Spraying the plugs??

Moisture causes freezing???

Fuel stabilizer prevents freezing??

Add more than is called for?

You should REPLACE the gearcase drain screw gaskets with new ones !!

You are changing the gear lube in fall, so that if it is contaminated with water, it will not freeze and crack the gear case.
Very few people will ever "wear out" the gear lube, as stated.

Don't put the battery on cement??

Forgets to tell you that you should place the battery on a maintainer charger, or charge the battery once a month during storage.
This has proven to lengthen the life of your battery. You should be able to get 6-10 years out of your batteries if well maintained.

If anyone ever poured anti freeze in my bait well or livewell, they would be on the ground holding their jaw.
If they poured it in my bilge, they would be licking it out.

And then there is the OMG amount of grease he put on the prop shaft.
