looks like the season is almost over. maybe 1 or 2 more trips. i plan on taking my 9.8 tohatsu off my jon and mounting it on my stand. my question, it will be indoors all winter, 3 months total. i will take it out every 2 weeks or so and run it with new gas on the muffs. how in depth should my winterizing be? thanks

Re: winterizing in ga

I think you may be the envy of northern boaters. Here in Buffalo, the OB's are pretty much already put away for the season.

Sounds like you're not really going to have any extended storage, so, as long as it's a reasonably dry environment, you likely don't need much winterizing -- no fogging needed.

Of course, changing cc oil and LU lube is still a good idea -- in fact, you may want to change the cc oil an extra time during the off season, since you may very well not get fully warmed up on the muffs. Short periods of cold running contribute to "making oil", and the oil will develop more acids than if you were running normally.

As long as you are running good gas, you probably don't even need to drain the carb, though it wouldn't hurt. That drain bolt with the 8 mm head on the side of the carb is easy enough to get to, and draining would be good insurance in case you somehow forget to get the motor on the muffs every now and then.
