We are Expecting another freeze this evening to 25 degrees so I want to make sure I didn't see something wrong in removing the petcocks on my manifolds. Water came out of one side and not the other. The water looked rusty and had some gunk. I also drained the engine block from both sides and water came out. Pretty rusty. I did this after a freeze last night down to 28 degrees and worried one side of the manifold may have cracked but not sure. So is it normal for manifold to drain completely out of just one side? Or Could the opening be clogged in the other side? Worst, could this mean i have a cracked manifold? Any ideas would be appreciated.

:welcome: to iboats

No, one side will not drain the other. Open the drains and put a stiff wire or small screw driver up through the hole to dislodge what ever may clogging the port. If no water comes out and your above freezing the it's probably empty.

If it happens to be cracked already and you cannot determine if it is, just wait till spring to find out for sure. You could, after using the wire in the drain port, pull the hose off leading to the manifold from the thermostat housing. Get it up high and pour in some RV antifreeze in to see if you can see it leaking out through a crack.

Thank you so much for your help! I will go out today and see if I can clear that manifold drain and put some RV fluid into the hose to see if it leakes out anywhere. Let's hope it was just clogged. If this manifold was not clogged, then would there ever be a situation where the left would be dry and the other side filled with water? ...or should I assume the worst - leaking out throught crack or seal of some type? I doubt if one would be totally dry when the other wasn't, that is unless there is a leak. Now the leak could be from the drain plug seal or a crack. Anything is possible but the probability is unlikely without some other cause, all things being the same. I'll be thinking happy thoughts that there is not an issue.

Even if you do get water coming out when you open the drains, run a rod through it when it stops draining. just in case it plugged up and left some water inside. Also remove the large water hose from the circulating pump on the front of the engine to drain the pump. The power steering cooler my also need to be drained.

I temporarily forgot what drive we were talking about. You will need to drain the supply pump, also on the front of the engine, but lower down.
