I'm curious as to getting my 9.9 Johnson SeaHorse. I'll be keeping it in my basement, where it won't freeze up. Any tips will be appreciated. I bought it from my buudy at work,a bit ago, and he told me a bunch of things to do. But I won't remember all of them. Thanks for your help

Kerry

it's easy.
all u need to do i drain the carb or run it dry (in a tank or on muffs) get some fogging oil take the plugs out spray a lil in each cylinder and spray some in the carb pull it over a few times and put the plugs back in it. i do this to my 85 rude 25hp and it starts second pull every spring or atleast for the last 6 years

I have 2 of these engines, actually they are the 15 hp's, but they are the same. I always unhook the fuel line from the tank, at the end of my last boating trip and run it out of fuel. I dont do anything else. I dont use the fog, its a waste of time and money in my opinion. Never had any trouble.

I'll second the Shade Tree if its kept inside where the temp is not going up and down to much. If the temp varies a lot then fog or just pull the plugs and squirt a half oz of 2 cycle oil in each cyl then turn motor over a few times as condensation in warm cold places can form on the cylinders thus rust.

Re: Winterizing the 9.9

Sorry for not mentioning I was getting it winterized. Seems I left out a big part of the question. He did mention dropping some oil down the cylinder(s). And possibly replacing the water-pump next spring. I kind of want to bring it to him, or have him come up here, to have it winterized. I've got more miles on my sneakers, than are on this '76 Johnson 9.9. Honestly. His Uncle had it, new, before he did. He actually asked me, last week if I would sell it back to him. Theres' not a speck of dust underneath the cowling! I've got no reason to brag about a 9.9 hp, but I would like to keep it runnin' as good as it has been...Thanks for any help

Kerry
