Hello All! I just signed up to iboats today, but have been reading threads for quite some time.

I just recently purchased a Larson with a Volvo Penta 5.0GL-H engine. I am getting ready to winterize, and want to make sure I have everything under control. To properly drain the engine, I believe the below steps are what I need to follow:

1. Drain the plugs on the exhaust manifold (make sure to poke a wire in hold in case there is debris)
2. Drain the plugs on the raw water drain on the engine.
3. Remove the raw water inlet hose from the water pump.
4. Remove the raw water outlet hose from the water pump.
5. Remove the hose from the engine circulation pump.

I already changed the oil and the lower unit oil as well as the fuel filter, and added stabilizer and ran the engine to circulate the stabilizer.

This is the first time I have winterized the particular boat. Anything else that needs to be done in order to winterize properly. I live in Memphis, so it doesn't get that cold here.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the fast reply!

I did fog the engine. I did not pull the drive. I need to look and see how difficult that is. That is something I have never done before on any of my previous boats. Is that a real difficult procedure? Do you have any tips for me on that? I will check the owner's manual I have to see if that gives me some step by steps.

Thanks!

Select Volvo Penta on the side then choose your drive. I'm guessing it's an SX or SX-A but there are many to choose from. These are service manuals, so they have step by step instructions for what you want to do. I pulled my drive for the first time this season, with basic hand tools it took 15 minutes to get it off.
