I recently had an outdrive go out on me and in the process of having it looked at for repair determination, I had to have it pulled & blocked. I decided to go ahead & pull the other outdrive off & start fresh in the spring with two new outdrives & keep the port side as a spare. To make a long story just a little longer, I failed to think about witerizing/fogging.

Has anyone ever done this without the outdrives being attached? Is there a way to hook up a hose to the water pump & have to suck into the engine? I have always had outboards troughout my 46 years & still trying to learn the tricks of an I/O.

Thank you,
ESC

Welcome to iBoats.

For specifics, we will need to know your engines and drives.

On my 5.7L Alpha gen II I can feed a garden hose to the water input side of the thermostat housing and run fine (with some clamps and hose).

just drain all water out of block via drains and pulling lowest waterpump hose at front of engine will be fine.cannot freeze up if there's no water in it.remove plugs and spray fogging oil in pots and turn over on starter but remove lead from coil so doesn't fire.fogging oil will prevent bores from rusting.could always remove air filter from top of carb to and seal with a plastic bag.add fuel additive to tank also.

You can also connect a hose fitting straight into the thermostat housing and run the hose to it. That would get water circulating in the motor while you fog it. Remember to leave the thermostat hose disconnected & open the seacocks to drain the block & manifolds when you're done so you don't have water sitting in the engine. Seems like you should be fine winterizing that way.
