winterizing

after 35 years of boating i have bought my first cruiser type boat(2500 scr maxum) i am familiar with winterizing all types of engines, however i never had waste and water systems to protect. are there any links with detailed instructions like in the engine section of this forum?

Nope,... But the Rules are the same,... Drain the water out....

I pump out the holding tank, then drain the water out and replace it with RV/BOAT anitfreeze (pink stuff that is not poisonous). Then I run the pink stuff through all the faucets/outlets and make sure it displaces any remaining water in the supply and drain lines.

I would assume it is similar to winterizing an RV.

I don't put any antifreeze in the water tank, but drain it as much as possible. I have a valve just before the pump under the sink that I switch, hook up a hose to and put the other end of the hose in the jug of antifreeze (pink stuff). Drain the hot water tank and turn the valves to bypass it. Then open each tap one at a time until I have run the pink stuff through. I leave the pink stuff in the holding tank over the winter.

I don't know what your water tank looks like, but the one in my trailer is designed with a "v" bottom so that a little bit of water left in it can't crack it. It just expands up the V. Last trailer I would put the antifreeze in the tank but it took forever the next year to get rid of the taste.

I never use the pink RV antifreeze in the lines, I just hook up an air compressor and blow out the water and put the pink stuff in the "P" traps so they don't freeze and crack.
