Re: Winterizing

thought fillling with antifreeze was a must...if not, wouldnt it run the risk of the block cracking during the winter.

Ayuh,... You're confusing Inboards with your Outboard...
When an Outboard is shut down, it natrually Drains itself of Water...

Btw,.. You have a Force outboard, Not a Mercury...

Well i know what an ouboard and inoard motor is. Just have heard since i was a kid to fill the block with anti freeze to prevent the risk of the block cracking. Have never heard any different until this thread. Motor reads "Mercury" on the cowen and in owners manual for boat.

Re: Winterizing

Does it happen to be a tracker marine boat? I have a bass tracker 175 with a "force" by mercury marine and to top it off it also says tracker on it. If your manual says merc than it is. I don't know why they put force on the cowling. As far as the water goes outboards do drain on their own. If you can figure a way to keep antifreeze in the motor that would be new to me. I just put sta-bul in the fuel run around the lake a bit put it on the trailer let the carbs run dry and let the boat and motor drain very well while it is on the boat ramp. Then I pull the plugs and fog them and leave it be. I live in colorado and it gets cold I never have had a problem with water freezing. Oh I also change in the lower unit oil just incase water did make it's way into the lower unit.
