I just purchased a 1989 Sea Arrow with an OMC 4.3 L Stern drive. Can anyone tell me how to drain the water out of this beast? Anything else I should do?

Thanks

Re: Winterizing

Dave, It is necessary to drain the block(two drain plugs), Manifolds and risers. Now replace the drain plugs and fill them with straight antifreeze which contains a rust inhibitor(like the auto stuff). Antifreeze should overflow out of the risers and out the exhaust of the outdrive. Now dump antifreeze down the raw water intake hose until it comes out of the outdrive water intake.

You also want to change the oil and filter, gas filter, lower unit oil, lube the universal joints, fog the motor. Do an internet search for "Brown's Marina". He published an excellent description of the process.

PS it takes me about 4 hours to do this on my Mercriuser.

David, Welcome to the Board.

Do we have some type of prize for the first Winterization thread of the season??

David, hit your search at the top you will find and endless list of threads on this topic, but being early in the year, you'll also get lots of new replys as well I bet, as the subject hasn't been beaten to death yet.

Re: Winterizing

Do yourself a big favor and buy the tank and hose kit for 39 bucks and there is no manual draining or refilling.Read and follow the directions but what you are basically doing is running the motor on fresh water muffs through the bypass valve of a tank of antifreeze, once the motor is warmed up and thermostat opened you turn a valve and the antifreeze runs through the system instead of water, when it is just about out of antifreeze you turn the motor off and the block and manifolds and risers and hot water heater are done.I have done this on all my boats for the last 15 years without any problems at all.It does not get easier than that!!
